5 Absolute Best Breweries Near Morro Bay

Oak and Otter Brewing

Cup of Beer from Oak and Otter Brewing

Oak and Otter is a small batch taproom located in San Luis Obispo. They've created a relaxed community hangout where you can enjoy good company, snacks, local bands, and excellent brews. Check their schedule since they often host entertainers, trivia, and open mic nights.

Dylan Roddick began Oak and Otter out of his home kitchen over a decade ago. Since then, he's perfected the craft. They've won numerous awards, including Best in Show at the Mid State Fair in 2017.

You'll find a more robust selection here than at many microbreweries. Instead of the typical IPAs, you'll find a full menu of light, hoppy, ambers, porters, and stouts. The brewery has a wonderful selection of snacks, too, including flatbreads, sliders, nachos, and dogs and brats.

Whalebird Kombucha

Are you looking for a healthy everyday drink that you can enjoy anytime? Want to expand your fermented beverage repertoire? Kombucha might be the drink missing in your life. Kombucha is a fermented tea that is packed with probiotics, vitamins, and active cultures.

Most kombucha you buy in the store is classic and more-or-less non-alcoholic, which Whalebird makes plenty of. But they also produce a delicious and refreshing line of Hard Kombucha that ranges from 5% to 6% ABV.

Colony Mash Brewing Co.

Colony Mash's Taproom opened in 2020 right in the heart of the central California coast, in Atascadero. It's a small taproom designed to encourage conversation and camaraderie. The owners have envisioned their brewery as a community hangout and meeting place.

Colony Mash was started by friends Ethan Krout and Erik Knapp. Graduates of Cal Poly's Wine and Vit program adapted techniques from the local wine industry and applied them to beer making.

Colony Mash makes a variety of brews for every palette. There are Kettle Sours with fruit and traditional lagers--the taproom has a constantly rotating flow of custom creations. Everything is made in small batches. The taproom also has hard seltzers, wines, and ciders to try out.

Three Stacks and A Rock Brewing

As Morro Bay's only "nano-brewery," Three Stacks and A Rock makes everything in batches of three barrels or less. Everything is made with quality locally sourced ingredients.

The taproom and brewpub also serve up wines, cinders, and pub bites every day between Wednesday and Saturday. They have an outdoor patio area for some fresh sea air along with your suds. Three Stacks and a Rock is located right downtown in Morro Bay on Main Street.

Central Coast Brewing

With two locations in San Luis Obispo, Central Coast Brewing is a well-known local taproom and brewpub. The Monterey Street location features a taproom and a weekly outdoor movie night on Tuesdays. The Higuera Street location offers to-go service Mondays and Tuesdays and indoor or patio seating Wednesday through Saturday.

Central Coast has a list of almost 20 draft beers that include pale ales, IPAs, pilsners, and lagers.
